This band was a one shot deal. In fact it could be called the “Contractual Obligation Band” as it was a combination of members from Liberty and Jury put together to fulfill a contracted job. It is not remembered which band held the contract nor where the gig was for that matter, but the band was in a position where it was missing members and could not perform for the evening. These players got together and practiced, doing songs that both groups knew. The name was thought to be a good “blend” of the two names Liberty and Jury. Joe had a Fender Mustang and a Gibson Melody Maker. The Melody Maker was a single pickup solid body with a single cutaway finished in what is now known as vintage sunburst. This finish is a bright yellow in the center changing to a darker brown as it progresses to the edge of the guitar. He bought the Gibson, which was previously owned by Mike Arnes, at Sounds Inc. used for $40. Joe had a Vox “Super” Beatle amp which he bought from West Minst’ra band from Fort Dodgewho were selling off some of their old gear. Steve was using a Farfisa Mini Compact combo organ which he purchased at Alber’s, which was located two buildings west of the current Boone Bank & Trust in Boone. He had also added a used Vox Continental organ. He would put the Farfisa on top of the Vox as was the fashion. It is not known what he used for amplification. Alan had an aqua sparkle Sonor drum set. The kit consisted of kick, snare, two rack toms and a floor tom along with hi hat, ride and crash cymbals. Russ was playing a Ovation Toronado and used a borrowed amp most likely. Brian used Russ’ bass which Russ got from Brian Wolf. It was a Teisco copy of a Fender Precision. The amp Brian played through was probably borrowed from someone too. |
